Making People Feel Better About Themselves While Making the Community Better, Too

Giving back. These two words sum up Avalon Salon and Day Spa’s approach to the community and to its commitment to volunteering

“One of Avalon’s core values is to give back,” said Bonnie Conte, owner of Avalon, which is located in Deer Park. And boy do the employees at Avalon give back. For example, Conte says, “each year in October, we provide manicures for 30 local women who have battled breast cancer. This is facilitated by a local agency in partnership with Brighton at Deer Park Town Center.”

Volunteering is ingrained in the Avalon way of doing business, and this is the reason that TOP ’TEER is recognizing Avalon as a leader in employee volunteering for 2012.

“Avalon Salon and Day Spa represents the ‘beauty of volunteering’ better than anyone I know,” said Kathy Scheuing, Director of Volunteer Services for Clearbook, an Arlington Heights-based nonprofit that offers services and support to more than 3,400 children and adults with disabilities, and to their families. The commitment to bettering Clearbrook and the community is why Clearbrook nominated Avalon as a TOP ’TEER company.

Scheuing continued, “Led by their director, Bonnie Conte, Avalon has been supporting Clearbrook since 2001 in myriad ways. At our annual Women’s Golf Classic, they spend the entire day at a hole pampering our guests with a quick massage, makeup tips and product demonstrations.”

And it’s not just the employees who get the message about Avalon’s commitment to community. The clientele is updated about the staff’s various volunteering endeavors, and they are encouraged to participate as well.
